What a divided Country needs now...

I have tried to stay quiet about politics so I'll try to be brief. One vote represents a complicated balance of issues that affect the world, our nation, our community and us as individuals. In the end, we measure which candidate best represents our needs and calms our fears and then cast our ballot. I try to keep an open mind going into every election but, yes, I have my own bias. My mind was finally made up early in the campaign after two quotes that I felt were attacks on people in my life..not just colleagues, friends and extended family but my mother, my stepdad (a 25-year retired veteran of the Chicago Police Department), and my wife. Although these quotes weren't directed at them personally, it used a broad enough brush that has allowed others to see them through the tint of these statements...and I don't want my daughters to grow up in a world where their family members are judged first on where they came from. That is not the America I know and love.

The last eight years...

This is coming from someone who didn't vote for Barack Obama in the 2008 primary but eventually did for the General Election and did again in 2012. I often hear the horror stories about this Presidency...and don't doubt the emotional validity of them for that particular person. Whether it is rooted in fact or fear...it is true for that person. All I can do is share my experiences. In the last eight years... ...my parents' urban neighborhood and the one I grew up in the near south side of Chicago (Pilsen) has experienced a financial and cultural resurgence; ...my former urban neighborhood just outside of Boston (Chelsea) became a hotspot for new home buyers; ...my current neighborhood in Sarasota, Florida went from being dominated by homeless people and drug addicts to 100's of new condos being built as I type this; ...I've had immigrant friends and family all over the country join the workforce and rise from lower class to the middle class.
